Simon’s Story

Cadrene Supported Living Saved my Life

Simon first came to Cadrene looking for companionship and practical support. Through friendship, compassion and the persistence of the team, he eventually received help to leave an unsafe living situation and find alternative accommodation.

Today, Simon describes his life as completely different. He feels safe, happy and supported, and is grateful that someone continued to care when he was struggling to ask for help.

I first came to know Cadrene Supported Living through a friend who already used its services. I started visiting weekly, where I received food, clothing and, just as importantly, companionship and friendship. I enjoyed spending time with people, playing dominoes and draughts, and having somewhere I felt welcome.

For three years, I had been living in terrible conditions, but I kept my situation hidden. When a friend I had made at Cadrene became concerned, the manager reached out to me and tried to offer help. Eventually, she visited me at home and was shocked by the conditions I was living in, with no proper roof in some rooms, no running water or heating, and building materials throughout the property.

The manager immediately contacted social services, who helped me gather my belongings. With Cadrene’s support, alternative accommodation was found for me, allowing me to leave a situation I feared I might not survive.

Today, my life is completely different. I feel safe, happy and cared for, and I have a carer who supports me daily.

Cadrene never gave up on me, even when I struggled to explain what was happening. Their compassion and determination changed my life, and I will always be grateful.
