Awet’s Story
I found people who listened to me, believed in me and helped me move towards a happier life.”
Awet’s story of resilience, friendship and belonging
When Awet was referred to Cadrene by the Jobcentre, she needed practical assistance and a welcoming place where she could connect with others. Through ongoing support, help accessing benefits and friendships made at the ladies’ group, she gained confidence and found a stronger sense of belonging.
I first heard about Cadrene Supported Living through the Jobcentre. From my very first visit, I was surprised by how welcoming and supportive everyone was. They helped me obtain identification so I could open a bank account.
I began attending Cadrene’s ladies’ group, where I gradually felt comfortable sharing my difficult past and the trauma I had experienced. For the first time, I felt people were willing to listen to me without judgement.
The manager also helped me identify benefits I could claim and supported me through a difficult appeal, which was eventually successful.
Today, I live happily with my daughter, have made wonderful friends and feel part of a welcoming community.
Coming to Cadrene was one of the best things that could have happened to me. I found friendship, understanding and the support I needed to build a happier life.
